A cold but dry road start this week, for a NE loop CW out to Missenden, thankfully a few less hills than last week. With potentially 2 (Lars and Colin) to collect on route, we opted to split at the top of Ragman’s for coffee and non-coffee groups. (Or that was the plan).
What we hadn’t accounted for was FOMO Lumb, leaning out of his bedroom window (in negligee) filming us coming through Marlow Bottom. How long had he been waiting?
Video captured and Mark’s on-bike photos done, Jeremy again in full EF Education pink called it quits at the top of Ragman’s. We sent the non-coffees onwards, but got caught up at multiple lights, roundabouts as we crossed HW. Colin was not at Morrison or Cryers as half-planned (and he would solo). Ed K threw a chain passing Hughenden, but came past at pace, matches burnt with Cryers Hill next. Such was the climbing speeds we intermingled up Cryers, Al the next to throw his chain as we crested, with lightweight jockey Lars sliding to wait for the ‘coffee crew’.
Eventually we decided to catch/pass or merge as one group of 10 as group one were sat up, Fraser chomping on snack one (a banana) as we merged.
Into Missenden, Scott needed to reinflate a rear, a breather before then Frith Hill (or part of) and brand new tarmac a contender for ‘best in Bucks’ as we turned off and topped out.
Not much else to report as we bobbed and weaved across and through Amersham, again our 2 lightweights jostling with last week’s KOM points winner Fraser at each rise. We did see Phil G (unplanned) on route, but he chose to turn and not join us, probably wisely as the spits became spots of chilly rain. Snack 2 taken (a flapjack) as we headed to Wooburn common, and just the fall away of Kiln Lane. The group got split here and through BE (lights) and JB pressed on for home (dragging some other coffee crew with him). Others peeled for home.
Looking forward to warmer times.
